Genetic Screening

Genetic Screening

Genetic screening can improve success rates for in vitro fertilization (IVF) cycles and potentially reduce the time you will spend in care at RMA. Preimplantation screening (PGS) is sometimes also known as comprehensive chromosome screening (CCS) or preimplantation genetic diagnosis (PGD). Genetic screening can provide physicians powerful information to support a healthy pregnancy and delivery.

The benefits of genetic screening are many:

  • Allows the embryologist to accurately select the highest quality embryo(s) for transfer
  • Selecting high-quality embryos improves implantation rates and reduces miscarriage rates
  • Greatly increases the effectiveness of single embryo transfer (SET)
  • Reduces the risks associated with becoming pregnant with multiples. These risks include increased risk of premature birth and low birth weight babies, increased risk of C-section and time spent in neonatal intensive care units, as well as health risks to the mother.

RMA of Philadelphia knows that genetic screening can provide hopeful parents with unparalleled peace of mind. Genetic screening ensures that only the healthiest embryos are ultimately implanted.
